THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN PAGO PAGO HAS EXTENDED

*A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE ISLANDS OF TUTUILA AUNUU AND MANU`A

*UNTIL 1000 AM SST MONDAY.

*AT 630 AM MON...SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS AN ACTIVE MONSOONAL TROUGH ACROSS THE ISLANDS WITH CONVECTION MOVING OVER THE ISLANDS BRINGING HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVEDR AMERICAN SAMOA. HEAVY SHOWERS AND RUNOFFS ARE BEING REPORTED FROM MANY SECTORS OF THE ISLANDS AND OVER THE MOUNTAINS.

HEAVY RUNOFF AND SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS MORNING. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL CONTINUE TO CAUSE WIDESPREAD FLOODING ACROSS THE ISLANDS. THREAT OF LAND AND MUD SLIDES WILL INCREASE AS GROUNDS HAS BEEN SATURATED.

THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO TAKE NECESSARY ACTIONS AND TO MOVE TO HIGHERGROUNDS IF NECESSARY. MOTORISTS SHOULD NOT CROSS FLOODED ROADS ANDSHOULD EXERCISE CONSIDERABLE CAUTION DUE TO HEAVY SHOWERS AND RUNOFFS.

This isn't quite as great as the ticker in the KHJ radio studio which says: "THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES/AREAS: ALL OF AMERICAN SAMOA."

In other words, it's raining really hard. Riding to work today in Joey's yellow VW Bug was like traveling in a yellow submarine. A lot of places in the roads were flooded up to the curbs.

I've talked to a lot of my co-workers, and they say that this is worse than normal, but not the worst they've ever seen. I'll be fine.

In other news, I've lost all faith in Accuweather.com, which lists the weather here as "Mostly Cloudy" and says that there has been no rain here in the past 6 hours. The flooded parking lot begs to differ.
